Objectivist Stephen Bailey frontrunner for GOP nomination

Great news via Jason Crawford of OActivists:
In the 2nd District assembly, Stephen Bailey took 61 percent of the vote to Bob Brancato's 39 percent, ensuring them spots on the August ballot. The primary winner faces Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Polis of Boulder.
It's pretty amazing to have an Objectivist running for office, let alone being the front-runner to win the nomination. Let's hope he can not only win the nomination, but then beat the Democratic incumbent. (Stephen has a website for anyone who might wish to assist his campaign.)

Boulder, home of the University of Colorado, is the Berkeley of the state, and notoriously liberal. It has not had a Republican congressman since 1975. There's simply no chance he's going to win.

You might be right, but of course Scott Brown wasn't going to win Ted Kennedy's old seat either.

But the wider point is that in the long run this is a great event no matter who wins. Most importantly it gets better ideas out in the public forum. But it also lets others know that it's possible to run and have an impact, which can galvanize many more people who'd previously thought "there's no point in even trying". And it's not just motivation for running for office; it might spur people to begin or accelerate organizing, debating, writing, etc.

It's these types of gradual victories that can eventually lead you to winning a war. (Of course, I'm not predicting we'll win, but I wouldn't completely diminish the importance that these types of events can have.)

I agree with Amit. Just because it appears he's unlikely to win, doesn't mean he shouldn't run. It will be interesting to see what kind of a turnout he will get. That in itself would be a good indicator of what the climate is these days.

Besides, never underestimate the voting power of pi$$ed off people. Take President Obama and the aforementioned Scott Brown as good examples.

Perhaps the candidate, Stephen Baily, hopefully, can simply run ads with pictures of Jared Polis in drag...

There should be enough of them to run ads for the entire election season!
